Bizarre ATP Finals press day with only six out of elite eight

With the qualification and even whether certain players are involved going down to the wire, it is very much get on with it stations at the ATP Finals with the final six at the moment getting their moment in the spotlight.
Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz posed for their shots at the event in Turin, but two glaring absentees won't be included in the black tie event.
Novak Djokovic has said that reports from Italian Tennis Chief Binaghi were very much rubbish when it came to him not playing in the event but whether Binaghi's thoughts were misplaced or not, the Serbian is still in action in Athens so in reality he would have to go from Greece to Italy to likely play the day after tomorrow's final.
No doubt the alternates are on stand-by as a result including Felix Auger-Aliassime. The same can be said for Lorenzo Musetti who likely needs to win the title to usurp the Canadian and snatch his spot but has an 8-1 losing record to Djokovic so both could yet be involved but due to the race for that final spot and uncertainty regarding Djokovic, they went on without them in a pretty bizarre sight.

Coco Gauff shuts down season

Coco Gauff has officially ended her season with no other events to go after she exited the WTA Finals yesterday after her final match with Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka moving through.
The latter made the final and will face Elena Rybakina on Sunday. But for Gauff, it is now the conclusion. A year that saw her become a Grand Slam champion again.
"My 2025 season is officially over and it was a longggg one. I played my first match of this season December 29th, 2024 and my last match of the season November 6th, 2025. It was filled with some disappointments but mainly positives and when I look back at it, I feel proud of all the things I accomplished. I love this sport and I am grateful for all of its ups and downs."
"Very few feelings come close to the euphoria you feel when you are living in a dream come true or a prayer come to fruition and I am eternally grateful to God for these experiences and the opportunity to feel this feeling constantly. Thank you guys for your love and support, thank you to my family, my friends, my team, and God. Time for a little rest and then back to the grind….see you guys back on court next year, we uppppp."

The battle rages for Year End No.1

With just over 100 points separating them, the press shots of course mainly involve Sinner and Alcaraz for the ATP Finals. They did the hilarious grabbing of the title pictures and also the more pensive serious shots.
They face off over the next week for that honour. Sinner's one week reign as World No.1 will end in the coming days with Alcaraz to resume his potentially for the foreseeable if Sinner doesn't usurp him this next week.
A pivotal time for the ATP Rankings!

Nadal receives key to Miami

An honour bestowed on Lionel Messi and now Rafael Nadal, he now holds the key to Miami.
Nadal attended the America Business Forum and did a speech on stage while receiving the honour and shared an image of himself on stage with the key.
Albeit this is perhaps a tad bit bizarre as Nadal reached five finals but never won the coveted part of the Sunshine Double in his career so it remains an empty spot in his trophy cabinet apart from this key now.
"Thank you, Miami, for giving me the key to the city. It’s a very special recognition from a community I feel deeply connected to.It’s been exciting to take part in the @americabusiness and to share experiences, values, and future projects.¡GRACIAS, Miami!"
He also discussed the differences between his rivals Djokovic and Federer as part of his speech.
"Roger and Novak are two different personalities, but ultimately, they share a great passion and love for the sport. They are major rivals who pushed me to my limits all these years.
"Roger was a somewhat more magical player in terms of pure talent and inspiration, while Novak is someone who is a bit more hardworking with a work ethic and a winning mentality that are difficult to surpass."

Rune onto phase two of recovery

While it will be a long time until he is seen on court again, Holger Rune is keeping spirits high and is into the next part of his recovery as he shared details on his social media.
He is now out of the cast and into his boot. Albeit he will not be expected back until potentially the US Open at the earliest next year as of right now.
"Phase 2, out of the cast and into the boot. All looking good , reactions in the foot, scar etc. I am in good hands, keeping spirit high," said Rune on Instagram.

Schwartzman cries on TV

Diego Schwartzman recently retired from tennis but he is getting emotional for a different reason. He was left emotional as he left Celebrity Masterchef Argentina and he was eliminated.
He gave a speech on the show and was left crying. A far cry from the court but gets the competitive juices flowing.
"That night I was a little nervous, but I wasn't expecting it. Many of us in the elimination round didn't cook well, and I was surprised to be eliminated because I'd been doing quite well. Perhaps the day of the round was my worst, and that's why the judges decided on elimination. The truth is, I was having a good time because I was cooking well and because I enjoyed being part of the show. I wanted to stay," he said as per La Nacion.
"I knew some theory from watching videos and going out to eat. But no practical experience. I've hardly cooked anything. I did know a little about sweets, because I have a real sweet tooth, and to try to avoid sugar and flour, when I was competing, I tried to make cakes and cookies at home to have with mate. In MasterChef, they give you a box of ingredients, and you have to invent something. It's very difficult because I had no practice, and I also spent very little time at home. In these last few months, I've had more time and practiced a bit, but I still need to get it right."
