Carlos Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the
Rio Open after suffering an ankle injury in his first match. The Spaniard revealed on social media that after a scan, he felt positive about being able to return to action sooner rather than later.
"After the meeting with my doctor @drlopezmartinez and my physiotherapists @juanjo_moreno_m and @sergiokine the diagnosis is a grade II lateral sprain. I have a sprain that will keep me out for a few days! See you in Las Vegas and Indian Wells!" Alcaraz said on Instagram.
Keeping busy
The World No. 2 has stayed in the Brazilian capital and returned to the court on Thursday with strapping visible on his ankle. Not wanting to cause any more damage to his ankle, he was also seen acting as ball boy for his brother, Alvaro. The older brother practiced alongside the Serbian player Dusan Lajovic.
Before heading to Indian Wells next month, Alcaraz will hope to be fit in time for The Netflix Slam, which will see him go head to head with
Rafael Nadal in a special match shown on the streaming platform.
