Casper Ruud has withdrawn from the
Dallas Open in the coming week but won't receive any sort of reprimand for doing so due to a new rule introduced this season by the ATP Tour.
He has pulled out of the
Dallas Open with just four days' notice, this is despite the fact that he reached the final of the American event in 2025. He will however avoid a fine from the ATP Tour after a new rule was introduced for the new season.
He took to
Instagram to update his followers and confirm that he won't be playing in
Dallas which is set to begin on 9 February and is the next tournament on the calendar.
“I am very sorry to let you know that I will sadly miss the
Dallas Open next week. Having played the final last year, I was of course so much looking forward to being back- especially also because I loved my time there last year with the incredible team that runs the event so well and organised," he said on Instagram.
“However, with the birth of our daughter this past weekend, I will be spending an extra week at home here in Norway to enjoy this special time together.
“I am already looking forward to being back next year in Dallas, and wish everyone a great week next week with the tournament for this year’s edition.
Ruud was allowed to withdraw though so suddenly without sanction due to the ATP Tour's new parental status rule which allows new parents to pull out of events at the last minute without facing fines or sanctions from the ATP.
The Norwegian however though will have his ATP Tour bonus cut when the season culminates at the end of the year though. He will miss the next few weeks in order to be with the new arrival.
He has already played the United Cup, ASB Classic, Australian Open and now will be back at the Delray Beach Open in Florida on 16 February. His schedule to follow will be Acapulco in late February before he heads to the Sunshine Double which comprises Indian Wells, Miami and then he will play Monte Carlo before the busy stretch of Madrid and Rome before the French Open.
