The final of the Chile Open in Santiago is set for later this evening with Casper Ruud set to face off against Thiago Seyboth Wild as two young guns collide.
Ruud in particular has impressed over the past few months and claimed his first title in Buenos Aires
last month. After being title less on the ATP Tour at the start of the year; he could end up with two by the end of today.
He defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas in an exceptional 7-6, 6-2 win; in just under two hours to reach this point and if he can see off the Brazillian later this evening, a career-high of World No.28 potentially awaits.
He has already became the highest ranked Norwegian in ATP Rankings history; now will go for even more which he is likely to do at some point anyway no matter if he wins today or not.
The second seed though has a tricky opponent, Thiago Seyboth Wild. The World No.182 only had two tour level wins before this weekend but the 19-year old now has the chance to emulate Rafael Nadal and become the youngest player since the great Spaniard to win a title during the Golden Swing since Acapulco 2005.
He saw off Renzo Olivo 6-1, 6-3 in his semi-final to reach his first ATP Tour Final and while he has received some fortune on the way with Cristian Garin over extending himself and getting injured in their Quarter-Final clash, he has shown he is there on merit.
Another stat is that he can become the second teen to win an ATP Tour title since 2017 joining Alex de Minaur from Sydney last year and that is pretty good company. Either way it is a high stakes final with some real scope for the winner to ease up the rankings.
