Stefanos Tsitsipas will take to the court shortly in the final of the 2025 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships taking on Felix Auger-Aliassime as he aims to write the wrongs of six years ago when he faced off against Roger Federer.
In his own admission, Tsitsipas felt like a rabbit in the headlights so to speak as there was history riding on it when it came to Federer's side.
The Greek has rebounded well with a new racquet which has served him well this week. At times this season, he has struggled since winning Monte-Carlo twelve months ago and with that upcoming, he will know that he needs to accrue points to stave off a potential drop.
This after also reaching the final of Barcelona in a successful clay court duo opener and he looked back to that final which saw Federer claim his 100th career title. He said that he wasn't a factor and the narrative surrounded that so he got caught up.
“I feel like one was a bit more historic than the other, playing Roger [Federer] for his 100th career title was kind of iconic and I got to be a part of it,” he said.
“I wouldn’t say I was a fan boy at the time but it felt good to be a part of a final like that.
“I won’t lie that I felt a little bit stressed, because I felt responsible whether he’s going to clinch it or not, so yeah it wasn’t a great fight or battle from my side.
“I wish I would’ve played a little bit better and done things a bit different, but it definitely lives in my mind as a great memory, and a great final that I got to experience with one of the greats of the sport.”
Tsitsipas: It was kind of a no-brainer... It's foolish of me not to try and make the change because it's too obvious that it doesn't really benefit me or help me. These changes sometimes are necessary because you don't want to be stuck in the same pattern over and over again. pic.twitter.com/4cDw4MhXSE
