Novak Djokovic is through his opener at the
ATP Finals after defeating
Diego Schwartzman in a 6-3, 6-2 win to ease to his first points of the tournament.
Djokovic and Schwartzman were tied at 3-3 to begin the tie but after holding to make it 4-3, the latter hit two unforced errors to hand Djokovic a break point at advantage and despite not pinning it first time, the World Number One hit a brilliant inside-in forehand winner to claim it.
From there, he eased through with a backhand and unreturned serve to claim the first set fairly easily. He went on to win four consecutive games in a row with a break and consolidated that with a hold to go 2-0 up.
It was soon 4-1 though with Schwartzman not able to hand Djokovic for patches in the set with an overhit forehand sealing a double break. Another quick hold followed and Schwartzman availed losing the set 6-1 by holding but it proved a mere consolation as Djokovic won through with relative ease.
Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev will face off later in their opener with the winner set to face Djokovic and based off the first match it will be a stern test.
