Dominic Thiem will retire at the end of the 2024 season and was spoken about in glowing times by one
Novak Djokovic. But he is also a rival that has got the better of the Serbian on multiple occasions and holds a stat only rivalled by one
Rafael Nadal.
Since Djokovic ascended to the top of the tennis ladder as World No.1 back on the 4 July 2011, only two players have managed to face him at least 10 times and win 40% of said matches. Thiem is one of those players. He has won 5/12 in his career with 41.7% going the way of the Austrian.
A player that has often been associated perhaps wrongly with his recent woes, he is a Grand Slam champion that did taste a lot of highs amid the lows and beating Djokovic on a myriad of occasions was one of those. Nadal is the other player.
He sits at 13/31 with 41.9% of his matches ending in wins. This statistic is likely to remain giving the form of both with Nadal for instance not slated to face Djokovic until at least the final of the Rome Open. Thiem hasn't been able to string wins together for some time and has struggled. As a result either will likely keep their records aside from sudden changes going forward.
Two top names retiring and two that in reality played a huge part including Thiem in shaping the dominance of Novak Djokovic at the top of the sport.
