Federer "Big plan is to be there (Japan) for the Olympics. Let's hope for the best for the Olympic Games coming to Tokyo next year, this is also one of my big goals. I really hope I can come back to Tokyo for that" .@wowowtennis
Roger Federer was unable to compete at any events in 2020 due to two knee surgeries so he is glad the Olympics got pushed back.
Roger Federer did not win a gold medal in the singles in his career and he always spoke about that being something he regrets. His focus is now shifted towards the 2021 Tokyo Olympics which were originally meant to happen in 2020. Federer was glad they got pushed back and he admitted as much in a video chat with Kei Nishikori. He said:
"Big plan is to be there [in Japan] for the Olympics. You know this is for me the big one. Maybe selfishly for me, it has not been a bad thing it was actually moved a little, you know because of the problems I had last year."
He concluded by saying:
"It was a big shock for all of us when Wimbledon pulled out because of the pandemic and then Tokyo Olympics shortly after that was moved. Let’s hope for the best for the Olympic Games coming to Tokyo next year, this is also one of my big goals. I really hope I can come back to Tokyo for that."
