It seems that Francisco Roig has moved on quickly after his sudden split with Emma Raducanu. It seems that he is straight back in the coaching hot seat but this time with
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard after the duo were seen together at
Indian Wells. The first Masters 1000 tournament of the year is set to commence on March 4 with the best players in the world coming in from all around the world to compete in the illustrious tournament held in California.
Mpetshi Perricard seemed to be participating in it without a coach. However, it seems that the Frenchman has got a very well-respected figure in his ranks now. This comes after his split with long-term coach Emmanuel Planque, unveiled on
social media. "After four years working together, my partnership with Emmanuel Planque has come to an end,” Mpetshi Perricard wrote back in February. “Manu, thank you for all your hard work and total commitment, which have helped me grow not only as a tennis player, but as a person. This stage will be very important in my journey.”
Roig built up a firm reputation throughout his career after being an integral part of Rafael Nadal's coaching team. Since then the Spaniard has Sloane Stephens and Matteo Berrettini and most recently Raducanu. It seemed that the pair had formed a solid relationship with Raducanu slowly rising up the rankings.

However, this all abruptly changed with the due leaving on good terms as the British number one cites a different style of play than the one trying to be implemented by her former coach. In the first tournament without him, the former US Open champion reached her first final since that success at the Transylvania Open, which ended up in a battering against Sorana Cirstea.
Mpetshi Perricard looking to get back to best form
Known for his big serve, which is a lethal weapon, the 22-year-old already has a couple of titles under his belt, both coming in 2024 in the form of the Lyon Open and Swiss Indoors. The 6 ft 8 in tennis player reached a career high of world number 29 in February 2025, but since then it has not gone totally to plan.
Being unable to defend those titles and get more ranking points on the board. he slipped down the order and currently hovers at 54th in the world.
He actually started the year in good form, defeating former top 10 player Tommy Paul in his opening match at the Brisbane International before eventually succumbing to defeat in the quarterfinals against Aleksandar Kovacevic. Out of the 79 points he won just 14 of which came against his serve showing his limitations away from it.
Back-to-back last-eight appearances Down Under saw him lose out to eventual champion Jakub Mensik in the ASB Classic but it was all good progress ahead of the Australian Open. Unfortunately he was unable to get past the first hurdle, losing to Sebastian Baez in five sets.
Fortune was not on his side in the Open Occitanie as he retired from his first round match due to him
hitting the ball into his face in a bizarre incident. More early exits at the ABN AMRO Open and Qatar Open were not the start to life he wanted without Planque. He had to qualify for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, which he successfully did, while winning his opening round match for the first time since competing in New Zealand. The number one seed Felix Auger-Aliassime took him down a round later despite a positive start.
He will be hoping to regain his best form ahead of what is a critical month in terms of tennis action.
Indian Wells will take place form March 4-15 with the second consecutive Masters 1000 tournament following directly after in the form of the Maimi Open.
