Former world number one Rafael Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya believes that Spain’s young sensation Carlos Alcaraz will have a ‘great career’. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, along with the likes of Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz is currently taking part in an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia — Six Kings Slam—where he booked his place in the final after beating legendary tennis star Nadal in the semifinal in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3. After the match, Nadal’s coach and former Spanish player himself Moya was quoted in a report by the Tennis Gazette where he stated that in his opinion, Alcaraz is likely to have a great future ahead.
He also stated that it is ‘great’ and ‘fun’ to watch the current world number two plays on the court. “I think he is going to have a great career ahead of him,” he said. “It is great to watch him play, he goes for every single shot. It’s fun to watch him and I wish him the best, obviously.”
Alcaraz is going through an impressive season. The former world number two has won two out of four Grand Slams this year. He first lifted the French Open title after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the final in a five-set thrilling contest with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2. The 21-year-old then went on to win the Wimbledon title as well after beating Serbia’s Djokovic in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. Alcaraz’s most recent triumph came in the China Open just weeks before the Six Kings Slam where he go the better of number one-ranked player Sinner in the final with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.
