Darren Cahill will no longer be the coach of Jannik Sinner from 2026 onwards according to the World No.1 after he defeated Tristan Schoolkate at the 2025 Australian Open on Thursday.
Sinner came from a set down to defeat the local hero who showed great resolve for a time but he finally lost out to the defending champion who lost his record of winning every set since October.
Cahill alongside his co-coach Simone Vagnozzi have overseen the rise of Sinner becoming a tennis phenom with the italian going from a player who was seen as a future star. But had not achieved his potential to becoming a multiple Grand Slam champion and the leader of the sport.
"If 2025 will be Darren's last season? He had already said it in an interview, it's not news. Let's see, yes," said Sinner to Matteo Zorzoli of Eurosport Italy translated.
After previously coaching Simona Halep before Sinner, he had brought the Grand Slam winning touch to the Italian. He has also coached Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi and also oversaw turmoil in the Sinner camp.
Sinner tested positive twice last March for the substance Clostebol and he has previously detailed how that has impacted the World No.1. It also meant that most of Sinner's team were disposed of apart from Vagnozzi and Cahill.
It is Vagnozzi though who will likely take more of a forward facing role. He according to Cahill is the figurehead, he spoke in November and said about when their partnership would end. He said also that he will retire from coaching when it does.
“Whatever he wants," said Cahill back in November. "There's always a right time to get a new voice, get new inspiration, a new set of eyes. ... but everything is going really well with us at the moment.”
