After reports earlier in the season regarding the
Hall of Fame Open in Newport in particular heading to the Middle East, it seems multiple ATP tournaments are either on the chopping block or set to be moved.
The tournament licenses for
Estoril Open and
Mallorca Championships are reportedly set to be discontinued according to L'Equipe. But it appears there is more to the story on the former with the tournament director, João Zilhão saying this will not happen and they are looking to remain which was also confirmed by Jose Morgado.
But for others, they will simply merge to form new ATP 500 tournaments with Doha acquiring the Hall of Fame Open who are still set to have the ceremony in Newport, but no tournament. Munich will merge with
Lyon Open which was won last by Arthur Fils.
While
Atlanta Open will also cease with Dallas set to acquire the licence from 2025 onwards reportedly. Two in particular are on grass courts which is a sparse surface on the calendar anyway which does make the decision an interesting one.
As is the supposed Estoril Open axe with Morgado even saying that the organisers have a good relationship with the ATP Board and are simply finding a spot for it on the calendar instead of discontinuing it.
