Lorenzo Musetti produced one of the most dramatic comebacks of the 2025 ATP Finals so far, thrilling the home crowd in Turin with a three-set victory that showcased his grit, flair, and fighting spirit. He turned around both a win over Alex de Minaur 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 and also his initial failings in his opener against Taylor Fritz.
After a slow start and an exhausting third set, Musetti admitted that even he wasn’t sure how he found the energy to turn things around. He now faces Carlos Alcaraz tomorrow attemtping to seal the deal and win through albeit the Spaniard is unbeaten so far.
“Honestly, me too — I was completely gassed,” Musetti laughed afterward to Tennis Channel. “But I don’t know from where — probably from the crowd, from my team, from my box. The fans were screaming, they were loud today. They gave me the energy I needed to turn around this beautiful match. Alex, from the middle of the second set, started to raise his level and intensity. He wasn’t missing a ball — it was really, really difficult. But in the end, all the hard work paid off.”

“The support of the crowd Is literally amazing”

When asked if this was some of the most euphoric he has ever felt on a tennis court, Musetti didn’t hesitate. “Honestly yes. I think today at a certain point of the match I was really struggling physically. Alex raised the level and intensity. I was struggling to find solutions. But then with a big heart, with big passion for this game… I don’t know from where… I started to feel better and to play better. The support of the crowd is literally amazing. I have to thank them all.”
Playing his first ATP Finals in front of a packed Italian crowd clearly added an emotional layer to the night. “This stage, these people, my crowd — it’s probably in the top three matches, top three wins of my career so far,” he said, smiling as he shared a moment with his family courtside.

“Of a warrior” — Musetti on his mentality

It’s been a whirlwind few days for the 23-year-old, who entered the Finals as a late qualifier and made the most of his opportunity. When asked about his mentality after such an emotional win, Musetti summed it up in one word. “Of a warrior. I think I’ve improved a lot on the mental side. Of course I’m pushing myself to the limit. I’m playing every match with the top players — I knew that. The next one coming is against Carlos… so I know how difficult it is, especially in these conditions. I’ll try to enjoy it and fight like I’ve done today.”

Looking ahead to Alcaraz

That next opponent is none other than Carlos Alcaraz — a challenge Musetti is looking forward to.
“(laughs) Yes, easy match for me! Carlitos is a friend — he’s a superhuman player, I would say. Every time I step on the court against him, it’s an honor and it’s a lesson. I’ll try to rest tomorrow and then be ready on Thursday.”
