Rafael Nadal was the first from the big names to step onto the
Roland Garros clay today and he was dominating against Korda reaching another quarterfinal.
Sebastian Korda was the talk of the Roland Garros as he came out of nowhere to string together a couple of impressive results. His run was halted today by Rafael Nadal who looked as impressive as ever in a dominating straight-sets victory.
The first was a strong one from Nadal, despite some early struggles. Korda came out strong almost breaking Nadal in the first game but that was about it from the American. From that moment on, Nadal dominated every faced of the game and he won the set 6-1. Despite the convincing result, it was not a quick set as it took him 37 minutes. The 2nd set was won by the same exact result and it featured more of what we saw in the 1st set. A balanced game from Nadal and an error-filled set from Korda who tried his best to be aggressive as long rallies suited Nadal much better than him.
The final set started off better for the American as he broke Nadal in the first game. He added one game on top of that to take a 2-0 lead and it seemed like we might get something from Korda in the 3rd. His joy didn't last long as Nadal immediately responded with a break of his own which started a run that saw him win 6 games in a row.
All in all, it was a strong showing from Nadal against an inspired opponent. The 6-1 6-1 6-2 victory in less than two hours is something Nadal will take and build upon moving forward in week 2 of Roland Garros.
