Vasek Pospisil cost his team the win against Serbia in the Davis Cup when he was forced to retire early in the doubles match.
Pospisil is a veteran whose health has troubled him in the previous year and it betrayed him here. It was a particularly aggravating thing for the Canadian as it was an important tie for his country and his forced retirement sealed the deal for Serbia.
It came after he simply felt fatigued and unable to compete at the level he needed to, admitting that the long week took its toll:
"Definitely pushed the body to the limit in both days that I played. According to preliminary tests, I will probably have to take several weeks off. It's a reality. It's unfortunate."
Despite the sour taste of defeat, Pospisil was glad that Canada qualified:
"But we qualified, so it's amazing. It's a great week for the team and for me and for everyone involved. It's an amazing memory. For myself, I just hope I can recover as quickly as possible and be ready for the Tour and be ready for Malaga.”
