Jannik
Sinner keeps the path of triumph and defeats
Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3, 6-4. The
Italian reaches 17 consecutive victories, securing a spot in the fourth round
of
Indian Wells and awaits the winner between
Francisco Cerundolo and Ben
Shelton.
The
22-year-old young star seems unbeatable at this point in the season, not only
due to the long winning streak but also because of the ease with which he has
claimed most of his victories. This time, he was superior from start to finish
against the German and shows no signs of letting up in pursuit of the title.
Struff
started the first set with a strong service game, but a single break
opportunity for his opponent was enough to lose his service. The German had a
71% first-serve percentage, winning 65% of them, along with 57% on the second
serve. However, he was far below the impeccable Sinner, who had a 77%
first-serve rate, winning 80% of them, and 83% on the second serve.
The Italian
was virtually unplayable for his opponent when serving, saving the only break
point against him and securing the set 6-3 without facing too much trouble.
Sinner recorded 14 winners and only two unforced errors, compared to Struff's
six winners and two unforced errors.
In the
second set, Struff improved with his first serve, but it was especially the
second serve where he struggled against Sinner's aggressiveness in returns.
Once again, the 2024 Australian Open champion capitalized on the opportunities
he had to break in the fifth game.
Although
there were break points for each player throughout the set, including two
consecutive chances for the German, neither could convert a new break. This
proved to be enough for Sinner to close out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
In the fourth round, he could face
Ben Shelton (No. 16) or the Argentine
Francisco Cerundolo (No. 22).
