Sebastian Korda has withdrawn from the Winston-Salem Open due to injury despite winning his quarterfinal match against Richard Gasquet, as he hopes to be fit for the US Open.
Korda had a good run at the ATP 250 event before sustaining an ankle injury in his most recent match. Seeded third at the tournament, the American defeated Benjamin Bonzi and Marton Fucsovics in straight sets to make the quarter-finals.
The 23-year-old then prevailed over twelfth-seed Gasquet in three sets. Despite losing the first set 4-6, Korda fought back to win the match 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7).

Korda says withdrawal 'tough' but 'necessary'

However, during the third set of the gripping quarter-final, Korda sustained an ankle injury. Although he was able to finish the match, he ultimately decided it was best to withdraw from the rest of the tournament.
Speaking of his withdrawal, Korda said the decision was not easy but that there was no other way.
"Tough decision to pull out. The ankle wasn't getting any better. Hopefully it gets better the next couple days. Definitely a tough decision but I think a necessary one."
Korda's withdrawal means that fifth seed Jiri Lehecka has received a berth in the Winston-Salem final after having defeated Australian player Max Purcell in his quarter-final match. The Czech player will face the winner of the semi-final between top seed Borna Coric and sixth seed Sebastian Baez.
Meanwhile, Korda will work on preparation for the US Open, which he will enter as the 31st seed.
