Novak Djokovic joined Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, among others, to give their predictions for the clay swing. At the media day before the Monte-Carlo Masters, Sebastian Baez, Christopher Eubanks, and Arthur Fils also joined in and chose their favorites for the Masters 1000 events – Monte-Carlo, Rome Open, and Madrid Open – as well as the upcoming 2024 French Open.
Carlos Alcaraz was one of the favorites in the players' predictions, with Djokovic being the first to predict that the Spanish player would have the most successful clay-court swing this year: “Alcaraz. Why? I think it is obvious, you know, with his tenacity. His game is so suitable to that surface and he grew up on it. Yeah, I think it’s.”
Others who expressed their support for a good campaign from Alcaraz were Ruud, Fils, and Eubanks: “We have seen him have a lot of results on every other surface and I think this could be the year that he really starts to really find his footing on the dirt,” the American said.
They were also asked about the 'dark horse' on clay this year, and Djokovic notably chose the 17-year-old promising player Joao Fonseca: “Fonseca the Brazilian. I saw him play. He plays really well. He reminds me of my game,” Nole said.

Joao Fonseca at 2024 Rio Open
The young Fonseca (No. 288) jumped into the spotlight of the tennis world after an incredible performance at the ATP 500 Rio Open, where he defeated Arthur Fils (6-0, 6-4) and then former world No. 17 Cristian Garin, although he is currently competing in Challenger tournaments.
Regarding the next champion at Roland Garros, Nole decided to choose a new champion: “Zverev never won a Grand Slam so I’ll pick Zverev,” the world No. 1 said. As for his upcoming participation in Monte-Carlo, Djokovic joked and said he hopes to pass a couple of rounds: “Pass two rounds at Monte-Carlo Masters, which hasn’t been the case for quite a few years.”
