At the 2019 ATP Finals, Stefanos Tsitsipas didn't enjoy only his first participation, but also his first triumph.
Last year, the young Greek was drawn into the group with Alexander Zverev, and 2019 US Open champion Rafael Nadal, and the runner-up from the same tournament Daniil Medvedev. For Tsitsipas that meant, that he faced players that were in a really good form.
However, he never feared his opponents and started the tournament with straight-set victories against Zverev and Medvedev. Although Tsitsipas then lost to Nadal, he still qualified for the semifinal from the first place. Then, he defeated Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem to lift his first-ever ATP Finals trophy.
"I enjoyed every single minute on the court. I think it was one of the very few occasions in my career when I played a tournament and felt no pressure and no expectation of people expecting me to do well," Tsitsipas remembers. "So I was just playing for myself, playing for the thrill of being out in such a big stage and being part of something so important and I left London with a trophy."
This year, Tsitsipas will have a very difficult group again when he will be facing Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev. You can follow the 2020 ATP Finals with TennisUpToDate Live Scores!
