In today's episode of tennis player v umpire, it is Stefanos Tsitsipas who is featured after outbursts from Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev yesterday at the Shanghai Masters.
Umpire Furgus Murphy with the subject of the abuse today as Tsitsipas got called for a time violation which left him fuming.
"You have never played tennis in your life," said Tsitsipas. But he got told otherwise by Murphy. "I have."
To which the abuse continued. "You have no clue about tennis, it seems like."
"I'm not as good as you are, but I've played tennis," Murphy responded.
As Tsitsipas made another dig in relation to his belief that the umpire had never played tennis. "Definitely you have no cardio; you're probably playing serve-and-volley every single time. Tennis is a physical sport. We need time over there. Show some compassion. We aren’t throwing darts out here.”
Tsitsipas also accused him of only doing it because his recent form is terrible. "Why are you guys against me so much," said Tsitsipas. "I know the last few months I've been terrible."
"I haven't seen any of my opponents gets a time violation except myself."
To which Murphy responded: "Maybe if you watched more matches. We give lots of time violations."
