Dominic Thiem and Diego Schwartzman will face off later in the final of the Vienna Open in what is a highly-anticipated clash between two in-form players who have had an excellent week in Austria.
Schwartzman's route in the Vienna Open has seen it all end up with defeating Gael Monfils yesterday 6-3, 6-2 in what was a
comfortable victory. It could be a second title of the year for the Argentine but he will have to get over his poor record over top five players which has seen him lose all four matches including to Thiem in Barcelona.
He summed it up in his post match thoughts and admitted that he is going to really enjoy it despite the crowd not obviously being on his side.
”Tomorrow is not going to be the same with the crowd cheering for me every time in these four matches,” said Schwartzman.
“Tomorrow is the home guy. We played this year in Buenos Aires and it was crazy. It was a big match and I beat him. Now I play him in his home, for the third time this year, against my friend in the final of this kind of tournament. Everything is so nice for us and I am really going to enjoy it.”
Thiem on the other hand
defeated Matteo Berrettini to end the Italian's run and reach his first final in 10 attempts in front of his home crowd. As a result he has become the first Austrian to reach the final in this event since Jurgen Melzer in 2010.
He spoke of his confidence ahead of the final and said that he cannot wait for the energy of the crowd and that he is finally going to achieve his dream so he will be ready.
"I am very confident now," said Thiem. "It was a tough match mentally and physically but it was not too late. There is going to be an amazing energy again tomorrow, so I am really looking forward to that. It was a big dream from the first time I came here when I was five or six years old to be there on Sunday and tomorrow is that day. I am going to be very ready."
