America’s
young tennis star
Ben Shelton has hilariously called out a fellow player for
wrong parking at a Cincinnati hotel. The 21-year-old is in the city
to play in the upcoming
Cincinnati Open. The tournament will be played from
August 12-19 where some of the top players from all over the world will
participate to win the ultimate prize.
In a post on his official account on the social media platform Instagram, Shelton called out
a fellow tennis player for wrong parking at a hotel in Cincinnati. "Hey, I
just wanna say. I just pulled into the parking garage at the hotel in
Cincinnati and whoever’s got car No. 164, you should not have a license. I’m
sorry, you shouldn’t be able to drive. This is a disgrace. I mean, look at this
bruh. That’s outrageous. You should not be driving a car,” he wrote.
Shelton will
face fellow American Reilly Opelka during the opening round of the competition
on Tuesday. It will be the first meeting between the two at the highest level.
Shelton is already regarded as perhaps the most talented young American player currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category and is going
through a rather below-par campaign. He started the season brightly and went on
to win an ATP title in Houston, where he defeated Frances Tiafoe in the final
with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
However,
since then, he has participated in 11 events and managed to play in the quarterfinal
or beyond on just two occasions. His most recent outing was in the Canadian
Open where he was knocked out in the round of 16 after losing to Australia’s Alexei
Popyrin with a score of 6-4, 7-6. On the other hand, his opponent Opelka has
recently returned to the court after spending nearly two years on the sidelines
because of fitness concerns. His most recent appearance also came at the Citi Open
where he was also knocked out of the tournament after losing in the round of 32
to Australia’s Jordan Thompson in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
