Back in September 2021, Emma Raducanu took the tennis world by storm after she won the US Open. From qualifying to the title without dropping a set, the then 18-year-old was guided by Andrew Richardson. After years of chopping and changing coaches, the pair has teamed back up as Raducanu prepares to return to action ahead of an exciting partnership at Wimbledon.
The 52-year-old Brit is now based over in Spain, executing his duties as the Director of the Ferrer Tennis Academy in La Nucía. However, he has a new task on his hands with a return to the UK imminent.
Raducanu spent a few days out in the academy, named after former world number three David Ferrer, as she prepares for a return back to tennis after a torrid period away from the court. She will be hoping to get back to her best under Richardson, rolling back to the years to when she was on top of the world with a glittering tennis career touted by many.
The British number one was happy to have a familiar name by her side once more. “I’m grateful to have reconnected with someone who has known me for over a decade now and looking forward to building together one iteration at a time," she said.
Their surprise split came after the US Open triumph, making headlines around the tennis world. This would be the start of a merry-go-round of coaches coming and leaving Raducanu's side in the years that followed. The latest, Francisco Roig, left the 23-year-old's side after the Australian Open, disagreeing in the direction she wanted to be taken in. The Spaniard is now coaching six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.
In an interview back in May 2023, Richardson unveiled that it was not his decision to part ways with Raducanu, wanting to continue their relationship. “The fact of the matter is that I had a nine-week trial contract that both Emma and I thought was a good idea to see how we would get on," he previously said.
“It ran through to the end of the US Open, stopping immediately afterwards. There was a period of time after that when I was keen to re-negotiate the contract. I wanted to carry on, and I had a plan that I wanted to put in place for Emma. After probably 10 days to two weeks I didn’t have a contract. We were in the process of re-negotiating and then I got a brief call from her agent telling me they were going to go in a different direction, and that was the end of iI

It is confirmed that Andrew Richardson will be coaching Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon 2026

The latest coach change as Raducanu prepares for WTA return

He was the second of a long list of coaches having stood by Raducanu's side. First was Nigel Sears who guided Raducanu to a memorable fourth round at Wimbledon just months before the run at Flushing Meadows.
Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Nick Cavaday, Vladimir Platenik, Mark Petchey and Rog all followed and eventually departed. Richardson's return is the latest change in the five year period of Raducanu being on the WTA Tour, with his impact yet to be seen.
Raducanu will now be looking to get back on track after a poor 2026. Injury hampered her trip Down Under before she reached just a second final at the Transylvania Open, losing comfortably to Sorana Cirstea. She then lost in her opening match of both WTA 1000 events in Qatar and Dubai before her last appearance came at Indian Wells. She has not stepped onto the court in over two months. Her return will be at the Internationaux Strasbourg where Richardson will be by her side. Then Roland Garros, and onwards and upwards through the grass swing to Wimbledon.
