Former Wimbledon finalist, Eugenie Bouchard has been mooted as sticking to tennis as well despite her recent move to pickleball ahead of the 2024 season and will make her WTA 1000 return next week at the Guadalajara Open AKRON.
Just like last year, Bouchard will play the tournament as a wildcard. She joins Ajla Tomljanovic as a wildcard as well as home hope, Renata Zaruzua. Jennifer Brady is in too albeit through a protected ranking.
The Canadian has recently been in the news not only for her switch to pickleball joining Jack Sock on the PPL Tour, but also for her comments surrounding Simona Halep making a subtle dig after the Romanian was banned for four years.
This did not go down well with certain sections of tennis fans who told her not to flop in another sport when she turns to pickleball.
But it is a tournament that has lost star power this week with Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula both deciding to skip the tournament. Coco Gauff also seemingly won't play and Paula Badosa is the other withdrawal.
