With the Asian swing of the 2025 season coming to an end, the Kinoshita Group
Japan Open will give fans one more chance to see their favorite WTA stars in action from October 13-19, 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
A WTA 250 event, the Japan Open will see 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams compete for glory in the outdoor hard court event. After becoming a women's only event in 2009, the tournament has seen a spike in popularity as several WTA superstars have frequented the event.
Former World No.4 Sam Stosur is a three-time champion at the Osaka-based tournament. The retired Australian star won the title in 2009, two years before winning her sole Grand Slam singles trophy at the 2011 US Open. Stosur would later win consecutive titles at the Japan Open, prevailing in 2013 and 2014.
Retired French star Marion Bartoli also holds the privilege of having lifted the Japan Open title, claiming the unique trophy in 2011. Dutch player Suzan Lamens is the defending champion in Osaka, having defeated Frenchwoman Diane Parry in straight sets during last year's final.
Osaka eager to end season on a strong note
Four-time Grand Slam champion
Naomi Osaka will get to compete in front of her home fans when she takes to the courts next week. The Japanese superstar came close to winning another major title at this year's US Open, falling to an in-form Amanda Anisimova in the semifinals.
Canadian tennis star
Leylah Fernandez has been in a slump since winning the DC Open in July. The 2021 US Open runner-up is scheduled to compete at the Japan Open, and could face Osaka in a rematch from their encounter at the Wuhan Open earlier this week. Osaka prevailed in three sets, battling back from a set down to oust the former World No.13.
Rising American star Iva Jovic will be among the competitors in Osaka, and the 17-year old will be joined by compatriot and 2023 champion Ashlynn Kruger, alongside Belgian veteran Elise Mertens.
Fans eager to see all their favorite WTA stars in action need not worry as the event is broadcast globally. In the USA, the tournament will be shown in full on Tennis Channel. Sky Sports will show the tournament in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, South Tyrol, Italy, San Marino, and Vatican City. While in Australia it is shown on beIN Sports, in New Zealand it is shown on DAZN.
beIN Sports also shows the event in France. Canal+ ordinarily shows the tournaments in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, but all are out of the reckoning for this tournament, as well as Nottingham, Iasi, Sao Paolo, Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Jiujiang. Eleven Sports shows the event in Portugal.
