Linda Noskova had confidently shrugged off any hate that she gets from bettors after losing a match, reacting in the perfect way after her season has now come to a close.
2025 has been another big step in the right direction for the 20-year-old, who continues to show signs of progression up the WTA rankings. She started the year as the world number 26, with her managing to half that number in recent times to culminate as the world number 13, with her top 10 debut edging ever closer.
Despite the highs, there are always going to be lows, and part of that will come from the reaction of viewers online. No matter if you win or lose, there is someone bound to give you some slack. Bettors are a real problem, taking their anger out on certain players after their bet did not go the way they envisioned. However, all of this does not get to Noskova, who just laughs it off. "Don't know, don't care. I mean seriously, I laugh at every single one I lay my eyes on," she wrote on Instagram answering a fan's question. "To think that these people write such crap and think that it will touch my heart in any way is just hilarious."
'Heartbroken' over final defeats
Despite her tender age, Noskova has already reached six finals on the WTA Tour. Her first came right at the start of 2023, where she was defeated in Adelaide by the world number one Aryna Sabalenka. Later that year, she once again targeted glory but missed out in the Prague Open, her home event, after losing to Nao Hibino. A year later, she would finally lift her maiden WTA trophy in the Monterrey Open. She overcame Lulu Sun in straight sets to win the 500 event.
Since then, a trio of final appearances have gone and past, with all of them coming in 2025. When asked whether these defeats in finals affect her negatively, she wrote: "Now that you've mentioned it, I just got heartbroken. Can we just normalise being satisfied with trying out best, which doesn't always mean winning at the end?"
Linda Noskova has won just one of her six WTA final appearances
The first final of 2025 came once again in the Czech Open in an all Czech-final. Noskova would just be edged out of it in three sets against Marie Bouzkova after racing into a one-set advantage. Her next final would be the biggest match of her life. After defeating world number five Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals of the China Open, she had confirmed an appearance in her maiden WTA 1000 final. Before this she had only reached one quarter-final in 19 attempts. It would seem at first glance a step too far for the 20-year-old after two-time Grand Slam finalist Amanda Anisimova bageled her in the first set. She kept her head high and clawed back into the match, tying up affairs only to be once again blown away by the American late on after she swept up the final four games.
Two tournaments later, and she found herself playing against Belinda Bencic in the Pan Pacific Open final in Tokyo. Her barren run in finals would prolong, as she was once again unable to get over the line. Her reaction to all of this is a very positive one. Whilst she feels 'heartbroken' that the results may not have gone her way, she has thrown down the gauntlet to any players who dare to challenge her. Noskova has proved that she is a very dangerous tennis player, and a tough one to get the better of. Still only 20, there is plenty of time for her to get another triumph on the board.
