Konta dumped out by Dodin, Cornet eases past Ostapenko into second round at St Petersburg Ladies Trophy

The action continues at the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy but in the case of Johanna Konta it's the end of the road.

Konta had a bye to the Last 16 in the singles and the World No.14 faced off against Oceane Dodin in only her third match since the US Open.

Despite that, it was a fourth straight singles defeat for the British Number One who lost 3-6, 4-6 to the World Number 159 who has struggled with vertigo at times in the past few seasons which has seen her drop from the World's Top 50.

This shows that some match practice at the very least is very much lacking from Konta's arsenal who will have to arrest her bad run of form quickly.

Alize Cornet is through her first round though with the Frenchwoman easing past an out of sorts Jelena Ostapenko 6-1, 6-2. She came through qualifying so has multiple matches on the court and will hope to harness that when she takes on Maria Sakkari next.

Anastasia Potapova also came through qualifying on home soil but has been making strides and she edged past Ajla Tomljanovic into the third round also. She claimed a 7-6, 6-3 victory to do so and looks primed for a potential breakthrough tournament.
