The One Point Slam turned out to be a huge hit, with some of the best players in the world competing for a staggering $1 million Australian dollars (£490,000). In the end, it would be an Amateur who took home the money. Jordan Smith stunned the passionate crowd as he defeated world number 117 Joanna Garland.
The New South Wales champion had a stunning day on Rod Laver Court. He defeated the likes of world number two Jannik Sinner and world number four Amanda Anisimova after the American hit her return long. He was engulfed in a very tight semi-final against world number 71 Pedro Martinez, but he would prevail after the Spaniard's wayward shot flew out of the court.
It was a fairytale run to the finals for Garland after she got the better of former Wimbledon semi-finalist Donna Vekic, with the Croatian and her diamonds unable to make it to the final stage. The Stevenage-born Chinese Taipei tennis player had racked off an impressive list of players, which included the likes of Maria Sakkari, Nick Kyrgios and Alexander Zverev. This was all on top of her getting through Australian Open qualifying, as she is set to make her debut at the Australian Open.
It was a very tense rock, paper, scissors match, with Garland winning the first battle and choosing to serve for the $1 million. She served it in, but the return put Garland off and a wayward return confirmed that Smith was now a millionaire.
"I can't even speak, that's unbelievable," he said, with a house in mind with the money he won. Castle Hill Tennis Academy, the club Smith played for, also earned a whopping $50,000 in a huge coup for the training ground.
The best amateur would also walk home with a Kia. That means there were two prizes on the line for Smith, who before winning the money lost out to the Queensland champion Alec Reverente who won himself a car. "That was nerve-wracking," he instantly said after winning the incredible prize. He revealed that he drives a Corolla, making it a huge upgrade on his old wheels.

Early names crash out

There were a number of top players crashing out in the early stages of this unpredictable but thrilling event. World number one Carlos Alcaraz failed to get past Maria Sakkari in the last-16. He cheekily went for a drop shot but could not get it past the net, with a very jubilant Sakkari happy to get through.
Iga Swiatek was very aggressive in her time on court as she took down Flavio Cobolli before going out to Pedro Martinez. Corentin Moutet was on the receiving end of a very surprising defeat to 49-year-old coach Andres Schneiter. It was also very embarrassing for Coco Gauff, who failed to even get a serve in, abruptly ending her tournament.
Other top players among the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Jasmine Paolini and Frances Tiafoe were among the athletes who took part in the dramatic event, offering trash talking and competitive tennis which in the end would not work, with the professional going down to an amateur.
