Ukraine’s
Elina Svitolina produced a remarkable comeback and
booked her place in the third round of the
US Open.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is moving
towards the business end as players continue to fight for the ultimate glory.
Svitolina managed to
get the better of Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the round of 64 clash
with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday to continue her journey in the
mega-event.
The 28-year-old started slowly as she came second-best in the first set. Pavlyuchenkova ended up winning 64 percent of service points.
Svitolina came back strongly in the second set as she won 65
percent service points, relatively higher compared to her opponent who won 54
percent points while serving.
In the last set, the current world number 26 won 74 percent of points on the first serve. In comparison, Pavlyuchenkova won just 58 percent points
on first serve.
In total, Svitolina produced 40 winners in the match, nine more
than her opponent. She also won 80 percent of the net points.
