World number one
Iga Swiatek continued her journey at
Wimbledon 2023 as she secured another thumping win on Wednesday.
In the first-ever meeting between the players, the 22-year-old
defeated Spain’s
Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
Swiatek was extremely dominant from the first set where she lost
two games. In that process, she ended up producing 14 winners, 11 more than
her opponent.
That’s not it as the number one seed player also won 82 percent
points on the first serve.
In the second set, the reigning French and US Open champion
was flawless as she ended up winning the set without losing a game.
In that process, she secured 80 per cent of the service points. In
comparison, her opponent only managed to win 25 per cent of points while serving.
The result will be a big booster for Swiatek who will be
hoping to produce a much better show at Wimbledon compared to how she has done
in the past.
It remains the only Grand Slam where the Warsaw-born has
never played in the quarterfinal or beyond. Her best performance came in the 2021
edition where she suffered a fourth-round exit after losing to last year's
finalist Ons Jabeur with a score of 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Swiatek’s third-round opponent will be the winner of the
clash between France’s Diane Parry and Croatia’s Petra Martic.
