Day One

In the first match of the tournament, captain of Team Stars, Frances Tiafoe faced the second highest-ranked player of Team Stripes, Sam Querrey. It seemed that Tiafoe will be able to win the first point for his team when he led already 6-4 and 2-1. However, he needed to take a medical time-out in the fourth game of the second set which lasted around 10 minutes. Tiafoe then once lost his service game, however, he was stronger in the tie-break and won the match 6-4, 7-6(5) to deliver the first victory for Team Stars.
Tommy Paul wanted to add the second point for his team in the second match and it showed in the match against Tennys Sandgren. The young American broke his opponent already in the second game and won the first set 6-3. However, he didn't convert two breakpoints in the second set as his opponent converted third and so the match reached super tie-break. In the third set, it was Sandgren who prevailed and eventually won the match 3-6, 6-3, 12-10.
After Team Stars captain, Frances Tiafoe gave his team the lead early on Day 1, the captain of Team Stripes also completed his mission. After the victory of Tennys Sandgren, the score was leveled and John Isner didn't hesitate to give his team the lead. He defeated Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-2, and got the second point of Day 1 for Team Stripes.
In the last one-point match, experience prevailed over youth again. Steve Johnson broke his losing streak against Reilly Opelka, who was a favorite to win this match. Johnson triumphed 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, and gave Team Stripes 3-1 lead after the first day.

Day Two

The beginning of the second day was marked by bad news for everybody but especially Team Stars. Their captain, Frances Tiafoe tested positive for COVID-19 and so he had to pull out of the event. Tiafoe was replaced by Christopher Eubanks who proved to be a great replacement. He defeated Tennys Sandgren 6-3, 7-6(5), and leveled the score for Team Stars.
Sam Querrey started his match against Tommy Paul with 6-3 victory in the first set. Then, it seemed that Paul will be able to put Team Stars to the lead for the first time when he successfully denied 5 breakpoints of his opponent in the second set and won in the tie-break. However, he didn't manage to win the super tie-break as Querrey won the match 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-7 to give Team Stripes 5-3 lead at All-American Team Cup.
Due to an injury of Reilly Opelka, Team Stars needed to see another replacement when Kevin King came into play. The captain of Team Stripes, John Isner showed that he knows what's his job and defeated King 6-1, 6-3 in just 74 minutes to give his team already 7-3 lead.
Taylor Fritz could have given his team the last spark of hope. The young American led 6-2, 5-3 against Steve Johnson, and had 2 match points. But then, he went on to lose 11 points in a row and Team Stripes member managed to turn the set around to force the decisive super tie-break. There it was Johnson who prevailed to win the match 2-6, 7-5, 10-8.

Day Three

Team Stars had a difficult job on day three. They needed to win at least 3 out of 4 matches to keep the hopes for the victory alive. Kevin King, who replaced Reilly Opelka, started this mission successfully. He defeated Sam Querrey 3-6, 7-6(2), 10-5 to score 3 points for Team Stars.
Christopher Eubanks continued where his team-mate, Kevin King finished. The young American faced experienced Team Stripes captain, John Isner. The tall-American didn't lose during the first days, but Eubanks broke his undefeated shield. The youngster triumphed 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 to level the score of the competition.
And Taylor Fritz was another player that pushed Team Stars closer towards winning the All-American Team Cup. After losing the first set 4-6 to Sandgren, Fritz came back and won the second 6-3 and also triumphed in the super tie-break 10-7 to give Team Stars a 12-9 lead.
Steve Johnson was undefeated during the weekend in Atlanta and remained the last guy to stop Team Stars on their journey towards the trophy. And he succeeded in doing so when he defeated Tommy Paul 7-6(2), 6-4, and leveled the score to 12-12. At this point, the All-American Team Cup was to be decided by a tie-breaker between Steve Johnson and Tommy Paul.
