Stefanos Tsitsipas began his
Roland Garros campaign with a late night thriller digging deep to recover from two sets down to defeat Lorenzo Musetti and inflict heartbreak on the Italian.
Sealing it 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, it was a match that finished after midnight on Court Philippe Chatrier. He also produced a similar great escape back in 2020 against Jaume Munar and was up to similar tricks again in Paris.
Leading 4-1 in the opening set, he looked to be cruising but Musetti went on a run of 10/11 games to lead by a set and 4-0 up. He held firm after the Greek closed the gap and went one set away.
But from there, Tsitsipas raced away sealing pivotal break opportunities at the right moments in order to move out of sight and he will now face Zdenek Kolar who saw off Lucas Pouille on Tuesday.
