Patrick Mouratoglou's controversial take on modern tennis was widely panned including by
Boris Becker who stated that he is alone with his opinions surrounding Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Boris Becker publicly took him on following his controversial Novak Djokovic take which saw the French coach give back a blunt response. The former coach of Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka made it clear that he isn't particularly interested in sealing approval from others with his opinions.
Becker stepped in with a direct response dismissing Mouratoglou's view which saw the latter question whether Roger Federer,
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic surpass the stars of today when it comes to their peak. He framed his argument around the so-called New Two in Sinner and Alcaraz.
Djokovic defeated Sinner at the
Australian Open just hours prior but Mouratoglou believes that while others see it as a mark of the Big Three still being the best, he said the opposite. He said that Sinner outperformed Djokovic in a wider tennis sense and lost because Djokovic had better mental resilience and execution. He backed the point by stating that Sinner won their previous five meetings and finished the contest with more points than Djokovic.
Djokovic win furthers point believes Mouratoglou
He emphasized that Djokovic's win only went forward to cement his viewpoint as opposed to contradict it.
"Thinking that Alcaraz and Sinner aren't better than the Big Three just because Novak beat Sinner at the Australian Open is a short-term view," said Mouratoglou on Instagram.
Rafael Nadal in a quickly deleted comment on his account also got involved with a string of emojis include the face with hand over mouth and lots of laughing faces. Nadal quietly removed the comment and whether it was the legendary Spaniard or whether a member of his team then hastily deleting it remains to be seen.
But in sharing his opinion, Becker hit back. “Patrick, I think your alone with your opinion," he quipped. While Mouratoglou didn't hide and responded without hesitation.
“I never made an opinion based on what people think but out of my own opinion. Only dead fish swim with the stream.”
