Daniil Medvedev's start at the
ATP Finals was far from the desired one. The Russian was in the news for his passivity during the defeat against Taylor Fritz, which caused a lot of criticism towards him, and rightly so.
However, Medvedev has faced his second match of the group stage with a totally different version. In the match against
Alex de Minaur, the Russian defeated the Australian in two sets: 6-2, 6-4.
This result leaves De Minaur eliminated from the tournament, after losing the other day against Jannik Sinner also in 2 sets. Medvedev, on the other hand, will play the pass to the semifinals in the last match. The result is not yet known, as the match between Sinner and Fritz is still to be played tonight.
Regarding Medvedev's victory, in the first set the Russian did not take long to get the first advantage on the scoreboard. At 1-1, Medvedev got the first break, which he then confirmed to take a 3-1 lead.
The bleeding for De Miñaur was not going to stop there, as the Australian again suffered a new break, which was also going to confirm the Russian to go 5-1 up with the set practically won. In the end, the first set was closed by Daniil Medvedev with his serve, 6-2.
In the second set, the equality was more remarkable. Both players were unable to damage their opponent's serve. As a result, they reached 4-4 without a single break point in the whole set. However, with Alex de Miñaur on serve, the key moment of the match arrived. Medvedev was 30-40, and broke his opponent to serve and win the match, closing the second set 6-4.
Next Thursday, November 14, Daniil Medvedev will face Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the ATP Finals.
