The Olympic Games is not far away and with the entry lists constantly being updated with players in and out, we take a look at some of the key names not currently involved and the reasons for that.
Rafael Nadal
The former Gold medallist from Beijing in 2008 will not be on the plane to Tokyo with the idea being to prolong his career and pick and choose with Wimbledon and the Tokyo Games the tournaments to miss out as the legendary Spaniard will head to the States early to prepare for the US Open.
Dominic Thiem
One of the first withdrawals came from the US Open champion who since got injured at the Mallorca Championships which curtailed playing Wimbledon.
His plan is to mount a charge to potentially defend his title in New York in a recent statement but that is currently uncertain but one thing is for sure, he won't be playing in Tokyo.
Serena Williams
2012 winner and 23 Grand Slam winner won't travel to Tokyo either with reasoning not given but it can be gathered that the current situation in Japan not lending itself to daughter, Olympia coming along that it made it easier.
Simona Halep
For Halep, it is more injury related with the former Wimbledon champion pulling out of the grass court season with her calf injury dealing her issues. Her focus will likely be the US Open. She was set to be the flag bearer for Romania.
Nick Kyrgios
Originally part of Australia's team, the eccentric Aussie had another different reason with the lack of fans playing a part in his decision.
Pulling out of Grand Slams in the past year for similar reasons, he made his return at Wimbledon and will play warm-ups before the US Open as he makes his return to America for the first time since Coronavirus began.
