World No.1, Iga Swiatek returned home in her first action since Wimbledon and it was a happy return at the Warsaw Open as she saw off Uzbekistan's Nigina Abduuraimova 6-4, 6-3.
Swiatek needed one hour and 35 minutes to get back to winning ways after losing out to Elina Svitolina in the Quarter-Finals of Wimbledon.
Last year, she lost in the Quarter-Finals to eventual champion Caroline Garcia in Warsaw and this year, she will be determined to go all the way in the WTA 250.
"For sure, it's pretty special tournament. It's not an easy one to play, a little bit different stress than usual, but I'm happy for the chance to play in front of Polish crowds," Swiatek said afterwards.
"First rounds, they aren't easy, and anybody who knows a little bit about tennis, they'll tell you that it's a little bit harder to player at home. Coming from grass courts ... for sure, I need to work on some stuff, but hopefully, I'm going to play better and better every day."
While Karolina Muchova who is the second seed and faced Swiatek in the Roland Garros final albeit on a different surface began her campaign with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 win over Rebecca Sramkova.
Muchova was in her first match since a poor defeat at Wimbledon with injury concerns against Jule Niemeier albeit a grass court specialist in the latter.
But this was after minimal preparation for Muchova who will now look to attack the US Open swing starting in Warsaw.
She could play Swiatek in the final and she spoke about a potential Roland Garros repeat.
“The crowd is expecting the final like it was at Roland Garros," said Muchova.
“A few people already told me ‘See you in the final’ but it’s not that easy. I could feel that just in my first round…”
