Aryna
Sabalenka thanked Caroline Wozniacki for the excellent level she has displayed
in her return to the WTA Tour.
The World
No. 2 is in superb form at this US Open, securing three convincing victories
over Maryna Zanevska, Jodie Anna Burrage, and Clara Burel, averaging just four
games lost per match.
After
defeating the French player in the third round, Sabalenka answered questions
from the press and expressed her admiration for Caroline Wozniacki and her
remarkable comeback to the WTA Tour after more than three years since her
retirement.
“I think
that’s amazing and that’s just something incredible. She was out for three and
a half years, having two kids and came back in tennis, and still play at her
best,” world no. 2 said.
“I feel if
you have this level you will never lose it. It feels like, when you watch them,
and it gives so much belief to me. One day I’d like to go for a baby. I’ll have
some chances to come back. So thank you for that.”
“There’re
just such an inspiration and ‘m really happy for her,” she added.
Wozniacki
has already secured three victories at the US Open, defeating Tatiana
Proxorova, 11th seed Petra Kvitova, and Jennifer Brady. The former world No. 1
will face local talent Coco Gauff in the fourth round, who comes with a
remarkable 14-1 record in the hardcourt swing.
On the
other hand, Sabalenka, the 2023 Australian Open champion, continues to shine in
Flushing Meadows and keeps adding Grand Slam victories to her name. With a
record of 20-2 in tournaments of this caliber, she holds the most wins on the
tour in 2023.
The
Belarusian will compete in the octaves of the final against Russia's Daria
Kasatkina with the goal of staying in contention for her second Grand Slam
title and potentially claiming the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in
her career
