Coco Gauff has revealed the biggest lessons that she has learned from her 2023 season on the WTA Tour.
The World No. 3 has had a hugely successful year, winning her first-ever Grand Slam title at the
US Open in September following victories at the DC Open and Cincinnati Open in August. Moreover, these consistently good results helped Gauff to qualify for the 2023
WTA Finals in Cancun.
Once there, the 19-year-old reached the semi-finals with wins against Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova in the Group Stage, before losing to her compatriot and doubles partner Jessica Pegula. The pair have also had a very strong season in doubles, winning the Qatar Open and the Miami Open before making it to the final in Madrid and Rome.
Gauff reveals lessons to help her in 2024
Therefore, the young talent has been dubbed by many as the next star of US tennis, but Gauff has kept herself grounded and analyzed the lessons she has learned throughout this season after her singles defeat at the WTA Finals.
"You know, I think I proved that I definitely have the ability to play and beat the top players in the game… the last couple of days were hard mentally, but I think I tried my best handling that.
"Overall, for the season, I think the biggest thing I’ll take away is not to put too much on a loss or too much on one part of your season. Because obviously, it can turn around in a very different way," she said.
The American player proceeded to look forward to 2024 and opened up on her mindset ahead of next season.
"I think next year, there’s definitely gonna be a part of the season where I probably won’t play as well. It’s inevitable. Every player has a part like that. I’ll try my best not to dwell on it and get out of it because I learned I’m capable of doing that. Hopefully, next year if it happens, I’ll try not to beat myself up too much," she explained.
