Serena Williams will not claim her elusive 24th Grand Slam singles title after having her
French Open charge stalled by the brilliant Elena Rybakina.
Williams lost out 6-3, 7-5 and now an unexpected finalist out of a quarter which has seen seeded players fall by the wayside throughout is set.
But despite defeat, Williams was positive post match compared to when she came into the clay court swing without a lot of match practice.
“I’m in a much better place than when I got here. (I was) just literally trying to win a match, because it had been a really difficult season for me on the clay.
“I’m so close. There is literally a point here, a point there, that could change the whole course of the match. I’m not winning those points.”
“I’m kind of excited to switch surfaces,” she added ahead of Wimbledon shrugging of a question about whether it was her last
Roland Garros.
“Historically I have done pretty well on grass. I have done pretty well on clay, too. Just not this particular season.”
