Danielle
Collins became the oldest tennis player to achieve 15 consecutive victories
since Serena Williams in 2015 and left a humorous response on the WTA's
Instagram. The former world No. 8 challenged the age factor over the past two
months with two new titles added to her resume.
At 30
years old, she won her first WTA 1000 title at the
Miami Open, and a week
later, she clinched the title at the WTA 500
Charleston Open, this time on
clay. However, her streak came to an end in the
Madrid Open round of 16, after
losing to the world No. 2
Aryna Sabalenka in three sets.
An
Instagram page posted the statistical fact that Collins is the oldest player to
achieve 15 consecutive WTA tour-level wins since the 23-times Grand Slam
champion Serena Williams, and Collins left a funny message on her social media:
"Danielle Collins is the oldest player to win 15 consecutive WTA
tour-level matches since Serena Williams in 2015.
“Who
would of thought a granny like me could win 15 matches #thisis30 #30yearsold,”
she wrote on her Instagram histories.
Collins' massive streak helped her return to the top
positions of the WTA ranking, as in less than two months, she went from world
No. 56 to No. 15, which will allow her to be seeded in the main tournaments for
the rest of the year, something that will be helpful in her last year as a
professional, as she revealed at the beginning of 2024: “Earlier this year around the holidays I
decided this would be my last season. I’m feeling really happy about it and
looking forward to it,” she said.
