As the North American hard-court swing begins to take shape, one absence stands out among the entry lists for the upcoming WTA 1000 events: Emma Raducanu remains sidelined due to injury, raising concerns ahead of her return at the US Open.
The former world No. 10 was absent from the entry lists for both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, where she had secured a spot in the main draw thanks to her world No. 37 ranking. However, the Briton decided to skip both tournaments, extending her time away from competition by at least another month.
Raducanu recently missed Wimbledon after suffering an injury during the grass-court swing. She had been producing encouraging performances, reaching the final of the Queen’s Club Championships — the first WTA 500 final of her career — although she eventually lost to Donna Vekic.
Even more painful was having to withdraw from the Tour due to a stress fracture in her lower right leg. She first announced her withdrawal from the Nottingham Open — which initially appeared to be a precautionary decision — but ultimately ended up pulling out of Wimbledon, leaving the home crowd without its main British representative in the women’s singles draw.

Emma Raducanu’s injury struggles continue as US Open return becomes uncertain

Raducanu’s injuries have been a constant issue throughout her career. Almost five years after her unforgettable run at the US Open — winning 10 consecutive matches from qualifying without dropping a set and unexpectedly becoming a Grand Slam champion at just 18 years old — the Briton has still not been able to find consistent form.
The Briton has struggled to build momentum, even when her tennis appears to be heading in the right direction. Once again, an injury has affected her progress. This time, a stress fracture forced her to miss her home Grand Slam, but concerns are growing after the Briton was not included on the entry lists for the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open — the WTA 1000 double-header that serves as preparation for the US Open.

Raducanu last appeared on June 14 in the Queen’s final against Donna Vekic. She had been coming off wins against opponents such as Sorana Cirstea and Iva Jovic during her run to the final, but eventually fell in straight sets against the experienced Croatian.
Since then, more than a month has passed, and although her initial plan was expected to be a quick return during the North American hard-court swing, the comeback of the 23-year-old will now have to wait several more weeks.
The Canadian Open will be played from August 2 to August 13, while the Cincinnati Open will take place from August 14 to August 23. With Raducanu absent during those dates, it will be at least another month before fans see the former US Open champion back on court.

Emma Raducanu risks entering US Open without preparation and outside the Top 50

After the conclusion of the Cincinnati Open, only one week of competition will remain before the US Open, with the WTA 500 Monterrey Open as the only tournament scheduled during that period. It could become a possible comeback scenario if Raducanu wants to gain match rhythm before the final Grand Slam of the year.
Otherwise, she would arrive at the US Open without significant preparation, with her last hard-court match coming back in March, when she lost in the third round of Indian Wells against Amanda Anisimova.
Additionally, this confirms that Raducanu will not have a seeded position at the US Open, as she will not be able to add WTA points during the upcoming weeks. The Briton — who recently dropped several places in the WTA rankings after being unable to defend her Wimbledon points — currently sits at No. 37 in the world.
Her absence from the upcoming WTA 1000 events will cost her more ranking positions, and she is expected to fall outside the Top 50 heading into the US Open.
